Biography

Erin has been inline speed skating since August 2002 with renowned coach, Renee Hildebrand. Her current team is Ocala Speed of Ocala, Florida. Erin has been a member of Inline Team USA since 2008 (excluding 2011, when she declined her position on the team to focus on her first year at the University of Florida). In her nine years of participating in the World Championships, Erin has earned 11 world medals.

Erin began her derby career in October 2012 with the Ocala Cannibals in Ocala, Florida. She transferred to Jacksonville Roller Derby of Jacksonville, Florida four months later and played her first game with their all-star team (the New Jax City Rollers) in June 2013. She is in her sixth season with the team, and they are currently ranked #12 in the world (http://wftda.com/rankings). Additionally, Erin is a proud member of the 2018 USA Roller Derby World Cup team.

Regarding sponsor teams, Erin has skated for Bont Skates as an inliner since November 2009. She is also a member of the Bont roller derby team, the Bont Quadstars.

Erin took her first steps on the ice in September 2016 in Europe—she skated (or, attempted to skate) during public session while her friends trained. This experience reignited her desire to pursue ice speedskating. A few months later, Erin traveled to Salt Lake City to train in long track speedskating for the first time. She skated at the Utah Olympic Oval with coach Ryan Shimabukuro from February 24 through March 24, 2017.

Erin switched back to inlines and roller derby for the summer but returned to Utah on September 24, 2017 to begin training full-time with the ISU Transition Program. The program is designed to help facilitate a smooth transition to the ice for inline skaters. By the end of the year, she had qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in two distances: the 500m and 1000m. On January 5, Erin achieved her long-term goal much sooner than anticipated by snagging a spot on Team USA with a third place finish in the 500m event. Erin will represent her country in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games this February in PyeongChang, South Korea.

As for education, Erin graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science & Engineering in May 2015. Throughout her studies, she conducted research in the fracture mechanics of dental ceramics in conjunction with the UF Center for Dental Biomaterials. She plans to continue her education with graduate study and begin a career in the biomedical sciences.
